Miriam and everyone. Comments on older posts automatically go into moderation and I tend to forget to check them. Sorry about that I just went and approved them all. I'm a bit busy so will try to read and answer them Wednesday or Thursday:)

Your Comments

 Today I checked my spam folder and found lots of comments, including mine own (!) marked as spam. Some from as far back as December 2023, many from my regular commenters. Only 3 or 4 were real spam. I just published the rest of them.

Excuses, but I really had no idea. If your comments disappear, it's Google work, not mine;)

Keep in mind though that all the comments on old posts automatically go in moderation, and I don't check this one too often, either.

An Important Personal Note

 I changed my email address. I mostly used to get spam at my old address, plus emails from the admin that they are going to block my account. I'm not sure you could even contact me through it any more.

Your Comments And Other Things

 Please keep in mind when commenting on this blog that the moderation is turned on for every post older than 12 days, and that I often FORGET to check the moderation file. That's why your comments on older posts don't always appear on time, and I mean sometimes it can last like a year before I check it. It has nothing personally to do with you or the contents of your comment. In fact, today I checked my SPAM files and discovered that even my own comments, some as far as 2013 were somehow caught by spam filter. Now I'm not sure if they were doubles or something but have no desire to check because

it's 31*C outside and close to 30 in my bedroom where my computer stands. So it will be all for today:) I can promise to check these files more often, but whether it happens is a different matter entirely:)

New Blog Rules

 I have decided to allow anonymous comments again, as an experiment. However, I will forbid it if things really get out of hand.

While changing comments settings I looked at the moderation folder and rescued several of your comments which were stuck there.

I'm awfully sorry but the reason is that every comment on a post older than 12 days automatically goes into moderation, and that since I used to get a lot of spam I hardly ever checked them!

I Have It All Figured Out

 about comments. Or, at least, I think so. If you have a Google account, it won't allow you to post a comment unless you first log in, then try to do it.

I now have an account with WordPress, and have the same problem. I can write a comment, but then a WordPress site will ask me to log in to publish it, so it probably works the same with a Google account. 

I'm planning to keep this blog for now, but will try and experiment further with WordPress. So as of now I'm still undecided about the move, but will keep you all informed:)

Another Question To My Readers

I have long been considering a switch to WordPress for a number of reasons, but now as it is so far and I have made an account there I'm still having my doubts. May be, it's just laziness, lol. Still, I'd like to know your experiences with this platform. Would it make blogging and interaction easier? What would you prefer, this blog staying as it is now, or a WordPress one? 

Your opinion is much appreciated!

An Important Announcement

 I'm planning to move my blog to WordPress. Probably after Christmas. I will post redirect link on this site and keep it up for some time, so don't worry!

A Question For My Readers

 Do I understand correctly that some people have trouble with posting comments on this site? What is the problem exactly?

If there is, it's certainly not because of anything I've done and I'm not sure how to fix it. I have been wondering about moving my blog to Wordpress lately, thoughts?

Update On Commenting

I finally got down to moderating comments. As you probably know, any comment on a post older than 14 days is subject to moderation. I usually get lots of spam for the old posts anyway, so I don't check this file very often, and now with my father-in-law dying and all the other things...I'm afraid it took me longer than usual, but I finally went and published them...Sorry if yours was stuck in limbo, it was completely unintentional.

More About Commenting

After I initially left a comment I appear to have clicked on the -Notify me when new comments are added- checkbox and from now on each time a comment is added I receive 4 emails with the same comment. Above is an example of the sort of anonymous comments I usually get. All of them are on the old posts that's why they come into moderation. There is virtually no way for me to know which are genuine and which aren't. An interesting thing is that after I did publish a couple of anonymous comments which were the least spammy, so to say, they stopped coming. Whether the break is temporary, remains to be seen.

Concerning the one above, in case it IS genuine. First, you'll get much better chance of me publishing your comments and replying to them if you add any sort of signature even if you choose the anonymous function. ALL anonymous comments, especially those left on old posts, are subject to arbitrary moderation and most of them will end up deleted. 

Second, I have no idea what you are talking about. Honestly. I'm not sure what you have done and how to undo it. Sorry, but this is something you will have to figure out for yourself. I would be inclined to do more research on the issue if you commented again, this time adding a handle. Regards. 

P.S. I did change the default language on the comment form into English, so I hope that helps. 

Commenting On This Blog

I have been getting complaints from people who have trouble commenting on my blog, so I'd like to write an explanation of why they might have to deal with these issues. Here is an example of the sort of trouble some folks experience:

 I hope this gets through. A while ago you changed something here and I have had a time getting anything I print to finish and go through here. 

Answer: I didn't change anything at all in my settings, it could be Google doing it, though.

 I do not read anything but English and this is not. :-) 

Answer: Since I blog from the Netherlands, it could be that Google gives the page menu in that language which I honestly don't know what to do about since it's not coming from me, so to say.

 Before I faked it and it worked but now not so..especially if it has to go to the place where I have to choose a picture to prove I am not a robot. I have no idea what I am to do! :-)

Answer: Google has a spam filter installed. By some reason, I'm getting a tremendous amount of spam comments from various from anonymouses. Some are spammed by Google before I even read them, others are manually spammed by me. Google also has a pattern recognition software which means that if you always choose to post as an anonymous, Google may start automatically spamming your comments or giving you picture selections to choose from to prove you aren't a spam bot. 


 Where do I click to make it publish after check comes up! I see nowhere... Clicking publiceren does nothing. Help ! :-)))

Answer: publiceren means publish, I'm not sure why it doesn't work.

Now for a long story:) This blog normally only moderates comments which are older than 10-12 days, and what Google considers spam by its own reasons. I used to get an email notifying me about comments stuck in moderation but some time ago Goggle stopped doing it. As a result, I often forget to check my moderation box and spam filters, some of your comments on older posts and those posted as anon may have never been published by this reason.

Anonymous comments are generally not permitted on this blog, you may choose the Name/Url option instead. If, by some reason, you DO choose to post as an anonymous, please sign your name clearly and in capital letters so that your comment sticks out from the spam comments and makes it easier for me to fish it out of the spam filter. I will probably go back to deleting anonymous comments from bots instead of spamming them, which may help people like Sarah.

Last but not least, I have trouble commenting on my own blog myself! I'm not sure why. It often won't post my own comments, unless I login first. Again, it has nothing to do with my choices, it's just Google weirdness. May be, I should move my blog to Wordpress...Have a nice day, all of you!

 

I'm Back And Other Things

I'm back and comments function will switch back to normal shortly. I've been getting tons of suspicious anonymous comments lately which all go into spam. A reminder to my readers: if you really enjoy this blog and wish to leave a comment saying so, pick up a handle or sign your anonymous comment like Sarah does.

Otherwise it won't get published!

Anonymous Comments

After a discussion with my husband, I have decided to allow anonymous comments.

A word of warning to would-be trolls: though you may post as an anonymous, I still can see your IP address, and if you are very annoying, may just decide to make it public.

Further on, for all new commenters, please check the blog rules and pick a handle. Anonymous comments without one will be summarily deleted. Sock puppeting is forbidden, see above about the IP address. Since I have no time to moderate comments, if things go out of hand, I'll return to the previous commenting mode.

Rules For Commenting On This Blog

Since I'm now having more visitors and thus more (potential) commenters I thought it would be a good idea to write this post.

I really dislike deleting comments and I have only done it once so far for advocating an illegal activity, and I really hope I won't have to use my moderator powers too often.

So here it comes:

I expect my commenters to adhere to some standard of decency, which means:

1. No profanity. If you post a link to an article containing profanity, add a warning.
2. No explicit sexual discussions of any kind. I'm not interested in what you are doing in the bedroom with your husband and neither are my readers.
3. No advocating of any illegal activity (this one should go without saying, actually).
4. While commenting, be polite to others and avoid personal insults and ad hominem attacks.
5. This is a Christian blog, so deal with it, which means no comments insulting my religion or advocating different religions or atheism. There are plenty of other blogs to discuss this kind of things.
6. Don't post anything racist or antisemitic, this is not Stormfront and I have readers from many countries (pointing the differences between various ethnic/cultural groups is OK, just don't insult others on their ethnicity).

The comments violating any of the above rules will be summarily deleted.
