Which is the biggest problem Christian churches face nowadays? Some will say abortion, others fornication or divorce, yet others will talk about wives not submitting to their husbands or even the lack of s8x in marriage, or some political cause.
I read a post recently where the blog owner said that modern Christians are all talk and no action. When they encounter a problem, they'll say that they are going to pray about it. While praying is always good, he said, Christians often forget that praying should be accompanied by acting. Otherwise it's like being the guy who kept praying about winning the lottery while he never ever bought a ticket.
I have thought it over and in my opinion, he is onto something. Just a small example. Pro-life movement in the USA achieved important victories in many places precisely because they took action. They went out into the streets. Same with homeschooling. This is an example to Christians in other countries. If you want to achieve something, fight for it (politically, obviously). If you are really passionate about a cause, then take action.
Even small actions like boycotting certain entertainment help. People should have the courage to live according to their convictions. Churches should have the courage to preach sound doctrine. So may be that's what the modern churches and Christians really lack? Courage...
Action is needed, yes. But when we pray, Holy Spirit will "hint" us to act on right time and right way. If we do not wait for that, all our efforts will be vain. If we do not wait, our efforts are nothing but egoism and self-boasting.
ReplyDeleteIf the action comes from you and your little mind and thinking, it is not God's work.
As Milton said, those too serve who stand and wait.
It is only pride that makes us want to dooooooo something so much.
Patience is a christian virtue. And humility.
I will give you an example. A man has been diagnosed with diabetes type 2. The doctor tells him to change his diet. He is also a Christian so that he prays to get his sugar levels under control. Should he just pray or also follow his doctor's advice and change his diet/lifestyle?
