Amazing enough, no! And it's not my opinion or that of some hippie naturopath, either. Strait out of the mouth of dental health professionals:
While toothpaste manufacturers claim that you need toothpaste to brush your teeth, it’s not true. Toothpaste is not necessary to make your teeth clean or healthy.
Studies have shown that brushing without toothpaste is just as effective in removing plaque and in some cases it’s more effective.
I wonder which other products we use that we are taught are absolutely necessary, but in reality aren't and can even be harmful.
I read a long time ago in The Tightwad Gazette that she didn't always use toothpaste but she said she brushed for five minutes straight. Yes, I do wonder what else we don't need.
ReplyDeleteProbably sunscreen if you cover yourself. Personally I can't tolerate f50 and f30 doesn't really help if the sun is strong. I bought a couple of cheap hats from Aliexpress and elsewhere and those seem to do just fine. Also makeup. God only knows what they put in that one.
ReplyDeleteDeodorant
ReplyDeleteOh yes, forgot this one. Has been linked to cancer, too, though they later denied it.
ReplyDeleteBaby formula, hair dye, microwave ovens, mammograms
ReplyDeleteThey say that henna is non toxic, though apparently not all the brands. As for mammograms, that's interesting. The pressure to get them is quite high.
