A Question For My Readers

I hope you'll all excuse me for not resuming the regular posting until after the funeral which takes place this Friday.  In the meanwhile, I remember than one of my commenters once stated that he became a vegetarian out of health considerations ( I think it was a he, so to say:) So what is your favourite diet and did you experience any health benefits due to it? Feel free to share in the comments!

  1. I experience the most overall benefit from eating what is popularly known as the paleo diet. And by benefit, I refer to overall markers of health aside from but also including weight control.

Paleo is probably best described as eating the foods God made as closely as possible to the way He made them. So basically meats, vegetables, fruits, nuts and seeds for about 80% of my eating. Where I diverge from paleo slightly is that I will allow myself a piece of whole grain bread once or twice a week.

This is what I've found the easiest way to live within a framework that I can sustain for life, unlike other plans I've tried which delivered quick weight loss but within which I always end up back to square one because at some point- whether due to my own frailty or the circumstances of my life and household- all the foods I've been omitting eventually creep back in at higher ratios than they do when I simply refuse to eliminate them entirely from my life.

  2. Thanks, Elspeth, that was very interesting. Lots of people nowadays seem to struggle with keeping their weight under control and I'm sure that the abundance of highly processed foods has to do with it. This, and disappearance of home cooking. Too many people regularly eating out prob contributes to the problem, too. I remember reading a book about nutrition where the author said you should make it a priority to eat your dinner at home, even if you work outside it. I think she was right.
