An Italian woman faces six years in jail after her husband accused her of not doing enough cooking and cleaning at home.
Her husband made a formal complaint to the paramilitary Carabinieri
police, saying that his wife was slovenly, failed to put meals on the
table and left their home in a dreadful mess.
Her husband, 47, accused her of “bad management of domestic affairs”...The husband complained that for the past two years he had been chronically neglected by his wife. She failed to clean their house, refused to cook for him and on occasion kicked him out of the bedroom.

Rather than dismissing the case as a domestic dispute, the police referred it to judicial authorities.
They decided to send the matter to trial, with the 42-year-old wife
facing between two and six years in prison if found guilty of the charge
of “mistreatment within the family”.
The crime, article 572 in the Italian penal code, “punishes whoever
mistreats a person in their family or a person entrusted to them for
reasons of education, care or custody.”

"On occasion kicked him out of the bedroom." That little sentence spoke volumes. Hell hath no fury like a man scorned.
ReplyDeleteI'm afraid that goes for both sexes:)
ReplyDeleteIt sure does. Straight from Shakespeare.
DeleteWow!
ReplyDeleteYeah, I can't even:)
ReplyDeleteI have never understood why men agree to sleep on the sofa if their wife is angy. Why they do not say: "If YOU do not want to share bed with me, YOU are the one to sleep on the sofa."
ReplyDeleteBut was this woman a housewife, or did the husband suppose that wife should both make living and do all the housework? The article wasn't quite clear about that.
If she was a housewife, and had taken care of everything well earlier, there must be some mental health issues behind this.
Housewife, agree, that's what my husband would say:)
ReplyDeleteAbout the lady, she probably was, but then decided to become emancipated???
They certainly have issues, but at least somewhere in Europe housework is still taken seriously!
It's because North American men are hen-pecked; they let their wives rule them. So they will let their wives make them sleep on the couch after a fight, instead of saying, "You go sleep on the couch if you don't want to sleep beside me!" If I ever marry a woman, I will refuse to budge from my bed; she can go sleep on the couch. (Thus, you see why I am still single at my age; I need a European wife, not a North American one... ;) )
ReplyDeleteI personally couldn't sleep one second if I had so bad disagreement with my husband that we couldn't share the bed. And yet people talk about things like that like it's funny. Weird world.
ReplyDeleteAnd the Bible commands us not to let the sun go down on our anger, doesn't it? (Ephesians 4:26) Shouldn't a Christian couple, both committed to Christ, not try to resolve a matter before going to bed? But, if they don't, the husband must not defer to his wife, but the wife to her husband; if she's angry with him and doesn't want to sleep beside him, she should go sleep on the couch, rather than insisting he must do so.
ReplyDeleteNorth American husbands must stop being so hen-pecked, if they hope to turn things around.
Housewife, you Finns are more cold-blooded, you probably don't have fights about nonsensical things like we do sometimes in more Southern parts:)
ReplyDeleteWill, I guess the one spouse who has the problem with the other has to leave himself/herself instead of trying to kick the opponent out of the bedroom.
Agreed, Sanne - and in North America, it's usually the wife who is upset with the husband, more often than not.
ReplyDeleteWomen are probably more upset with their husbands than vice versa everywhere:)
ReplyDeleteNo doubt, because women everywhere are more critical and judgmental. :)
ReplyDeleteNo, because they are more emotional!
ReplyDeleteOh, well, that too. ;)
DeleteI agree with Will. No christian -or no SANE- couple should let the sun go down on their anger.
ReplyDeleteAnd Sanne, I know some very hot-blooded finnish women. Or ill-natured, I would like to say. Or ill-bred? ;) So it has nothing to do with the latitudes. :)
On the other hand, many people would propably call me bloodless. :) Since I have Asperger's I tend to forget that people could show their emotions every now and then.
Yes, we Finns do think drama queens are ill-bred :-)
DeleteMiriam, some like it hot:)
DeleteHot-blooded doesn't always equal ill-natured, imo. It's just a different sort of temperament. On the other hand, people who always appear calm and reserved, if they once lose their temper they can flow into the most horrible fits of rage. Also, some couples enjoy fighting, especially when they are younger. It kinda spices things up. And, of course, a lot of women love drama. What really poison marriage, is when spouses start keeping grudges against each other. Sometimes it's better to blow off steam than to keep resentment for days and weeks.
ReplyDeleteKeeping resentment in a marriage is the most childish thing to do. :-) As if your ego did matter.
ReplyDeleteIt's also dangerous as it leads straight to the divorce court.
