I’m referring to Ephesians 5 and 1 Peter 3, of course—well, half of them, anyway. Is the apostolic instruction that wives submit to their husbands inherently abusive? Does a refusal to redact that part of the whole counsel of God enable domestic violence?

Quite ignorant of you, as an American. I can say that as only God sees and knows. Not you. God sees a woman 'outwardly' submitting yet angry (a sin in and of itself) toward her husband. And, in fact, to believe every other wife on this planet "other than" America is more submissive. Your ignorance shines like the morning sun.
ReplyDeleteAs a woman who reads a lot of traditionalist blogs, one thing really stands out and that is how many of you all hate women to the point that even when a woman is calling for women to submit to men, she's still wrong! It appears you must find something to condemn about her. You just cannot allow her to be right about anything whatsoever.

Lol, I haven't written it. It was written by a Lutheran pastor (the link is integrated above) and its name was literally "America's most hated Bible verses". So take it up with him. The problem, of course, is not only American (again, mentioned by me) but generally Western, and something which I write about often enough.
ReplyDeleteAs for whether the wife is called up to submit to her husband in general; in my Bible she is, may be in some new editions they cut it out, not sure:)
It's quite an interesting article, btw, and deals with the topic of domestic abuse and parental authority, among other things. And, of course, a pastor can explain it all much better than I do.

ReplyDeleteWhen it comes to abusive husbands -well, we all get to choose our own husbands. We should teach young women to choose more wisely. And if they do not listen, well, you reap what you sow...
I just realized, that feminism makes it very hard to obey 4th commandment, because mothers are feminists. My mother is a boomer, and early feminist. I cannot respect her, because she does not respect my father and submit. As long as I can remember, she has whined about my father. To me, her own daughter. Since my father is a good man and I respect him, I am always on his side, and then mother gets even more upset.

Mothers like that ruins their childrens worldview so badly. My sister is like mother; their favourite hobby is "whine about my husband". So my niece believes all men all really silly and useless and there is no need to respect them. And my sisters husband is a good man, too.
If submission is too much to ask, could women at least stop mocking their husbands to other people? Especially their children?
I am so grateful God let me see through all this BS (pardon my french) at very young age. And I pray he would open the eyes of all women. The marital bliss one can experience when following His will. And all it takes is to respect your husband and submit. Which is easy, if you have asked God's help and he has helped you to choose wisely.
Concerning women belittling their husbands. Here is something to consider. If a woman marries a prince she becomes a princess. Now if, according to her own words, she has married a bastard, what does it make her:)

ReplyDeleteDoes Bible really ever give us excuses? I think not. That is why we have Grace. Because fulfilling the Law is next to impossible for mere humans.
