but I think I've seen a wolf today in an empty building lot quite close to my house. I went back to look again and he disappeared. He was dark grey in colour, of about the same size as a German shepherd. We don't have stray dogs over here, mind you. But may be it was some kind of a shepherd dog who ran away. He had no collar on. I mean how do I know what it was? And should I keep my cat home at night?
P.S. He looked a bit like a picture below but I thought timber wolf was an American sort.
Yes, keep your cat close for a while. That's my advice.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Elspeth! I have actually decided for myself that it was a shepherd cross-breed who ran away from someone's back garden:) I'll keep an eye on it. The cat sits by the door every night shouting until he can go outside. I believe he sleeps in the shed of the neighbours. A dog/whatever of that size can't go through their fence.
ReplyDeleteThere are dog breeds that have wolf in them and look very wolf-like. If dog runs away, it may not necessarily have a collar on: if dog uses harness, they sometimes slip out of it and have no collar.
ReplyDeleteBut apparently you DO have wolfs on Holland, too.
Wolves aren't usually interested in cats. Tricky to catch and no risk. They do kill dogs, because they think dogs compete with them on territory and pray, and dogs just are like "Woowee, big doggo! We play!" And wolves wont play.
Interestingly enough, they don't give a damn about foxes. Foxes can be on their territory. Dogs -no way.
ReplyDeleteYes, we do have wolves. They have been seen roaming the streets in the broad daylight. But not in our city;) Foxes, on the other hand...
