I could feed my family better for couple of weeks just from my pantry. I thought all american housewifes had home storage for a year's worth of food. :)

Oatmeal would be so much cheaper than cereals(at least here) and much more healthy.

Too bad I cannot find "Prudent Homemaker" -blog anymore. She had lived 8 months from her pantry and had really good ideas how to feed your family with very little money. And she did not feed them same food several days in a row.

I found it, here is a link to her "40cents a day" -posts. She managed to feed her family with only 40 cents a day per person:

  3. Thanks for the link! I'm not sure about the lady in question, as I understood it was an emergency. There was news some time ago that many Americans don't even have a 500$ in savings, so I doubt if everyone has a full pantry...

I must admit she made me feel pretty guilty for budgeting 10 euros for tomorrows lunch outside.

  5. It just shows how relative poverty is in Western countries. How many ladies who claim they really need this 2nd income are spending more than this on fast food and drinks? There is a YouTube channel which shows hat you can cook for the price of fast food, I linked to it in one of my previous posts. Quite eye-opening:) But I'll admit that we do eat out now and then:)
