Am I The Only One...

Am I the only one who has problems switching from winter time to summer time and back? When the clock goes forward it always feels like they are stealing an hour of your life and you have to run the whole day to catch up. When the clock is getting bad it's kinda easier, but then suddenly it's dark one hour earlier. I realise summer time is good for economy and stuff, but is it really good for human beings? Also the meal times get changed, too.

In other news, World Health Organization came up with the news that red meat could "possibly" cause cancer (but they don't know for sure. Anyway, is there anything which doesn't cause cancer nowadays?). Here is an interesting take on the issue:

World Health Organization, meat and cancer.

Ladies and gentlemen, that was all for today Till next time!

  1. No you are not :-) The older I get, the more difficult it is to me.

I didn't read the article, but I wanted to share some interesting thoughts a guest of ours had lately. We were discussing about gratitude. She said she had been thinking about all kind of food sensitives. There must be a connection between food allergies and the ungrateful and busy lifestyle. In the past, food was grown, cooked and enjoyed with love and gratitude and there were no allergies, she said. I found it very interesting.

  2. Miriam, that's exactly how I feel about summer/winter time. Children often have trouble adjusting as well.

This theory about food is interesting, to say the least. I do believe processed foods in general (not only meat) aren't really healthy, and we probably consume too much meat anyway, but I wouldn't go into another extreme, either.

  3. Meals were pretty important in the past, btw, and dining was an event. Families used to change for dinner, even if it was only husband and wife (better off families, that is). Nowadays food is something you consume in front of the TV just to have a full stomach.

  4. I read this as an Old [American] Indian Saying -- "Only the government would cut a foot off the top blanket and sew it to the bottom of the blanket and say they have a longer blanket." hahaha! That's putting it out right there in front to show the stupidity of "daylight savings" time.

We have that same saying here in Finland. Or in our sayings and stories there is a place called "Hölmölä", which meand a place where fools live. And there is a story about fools trying to prolong their blanket. And if somebody does something similar to this daylight saving time -thing, we say: "Now this is just fools prolonging their blanket" or something like that.

    2. We must have a place here, too, somewhere. There's just gotta be! Most of our current politicians reside there, I think. Just kidding. Well, maybe not.

  5. It appears I'm not the only one questioning the wisdom of these time savings:) Good to know!

There has been studies that show how unhealhty this summer time/winter time -thing is. And for example cows milk less after the switching; they can milk 1 liter less per day for a week. (cows are very sensitive animals and every change in routines can decreace milk production.)

About meat: I actually think that the main killer in western world is stress. And most people start to take awfully lot of stress about food, too. I think it is better to eat happily and peacefully a hamburger than "healthy meal" you stress about.

I have never understood why people want to eat on the couch or in the bed. I mean real meals, I understand having something to nibble when you watch a good movie.

  7. Yes, that's what happens - your routine changes and that's twice a year. I'm sure not only cows are affected. Anyway, it just doesn't feel right, isn't it supposed to be midday when the Sun is in zenith? Well, it isn't in summer.

Some offtopic, if you do not mind: since you Sanne told that you wore jeans before you became "dresses only", could you concider writing a whole blog post about the transition, why's and how's, how long it took etc. I have understood that you do not want to get too personal in this blog but post like that would be highly appreciated. I am sure I am not the only whan who would find it very helpful indeed. But of course, if you do not want to share that much I respect that. :)

I mean I am struggling with this subject once again. (I bet you are all getting very bored with my struggles by now. ;)) I realised that I am totally comfortable in skirts at home, but when I go outside the home, I suddenly feel very vulnerable and uncomfortable. It feels like I can show "the real me" to my husband only. If other people are present, I need to wear an uniform and that contains trousers. Any trousers will do...

  9. No, I don't mind writing about it, I just thought nobody would be interested:)

  10. A great suggestion Housewife from Finland. Sanne, I'd love to hear your "jeans to skirts/dresses" story. I'm sure it will inspire even more women to take the plunge and make the change.

  11. I'm really rather uncomfortable giving "testimonies" online, but I'll write about this topic soon, as I first had another post planned.
