Liberalism And The Church

Then why are the churches in the West so liberal???

Why is everything in the West so liberal? Why do schools indoctrinate children in progressive causes  instead of just teaching them history and math? Why do the MSM spread propaganda and sermonise instead of just reporting the news? May be, it has something to do with the long march through the institutions which started quite some time ago?

Church invisible is a divine institution but the visible churches consist of men and thus are corruptible just like everything else the man builds.

Now progressivism is pretty much the official ideology of the Western world, which means that the churches which preach traditionalism will necessarily get into problems with the government, so they often choose to at least pay lip service to liberalism. On the other hand, the people in the congregation are getting pretty liberal, too, which often means that the preacher will have to adjust his message accordingly.

But it's cowardice! Probably yes, to a degree. And what have you done in the real life to challenge the status quo? Most of the folks gathering on the New Right sites and blogs don't have enough guts to sign their own name and the only thing they do is to *itch on the interwebz how life sucks in general and their own in particular. So I'd like to ask these internet warriors a question: why do you expect others to fight your battles for you? Why don't you go out and try to change the world?

Well, you'll say, but I have a lot to lose, including my job and I have my family to think of. You know what? And so does the preacher!

  1. What do you mean by the Western world? So many churches are becoming very liberal - maybe the church wants to be more popular and they think this is the way to be accepted. With all of the issues today such as abortion, homosexuality, same sex marriage, euthanasia, contemporary music - many issues for churches to contend with. Perhaps the biggest problem is materialism - materialism can be a religion of its own.

  2. I think it could be anything. The duggar family shares and has conservative values.... but because of the 'tv' personality and popularity.....they didn't know they had sin in their life. Bible says... 'oh Lord judge me....' we should want his judgment.... not our 'culture_traditions_quirks...' and what not....

  4. As for Duggars, if they hadn't turned their life into a reality show, nothing of it would have happened. Or at least, nobody would know.

About the Duggars: They have a large family. It is unevidable, that in such a crowd there must be some sort of sin - we are all sinners, no matter how hard we try. The very best parenting can not prevent it. I mean that as far as I know, they have never said they are free from sin; they just do their best and show tells us what is their idea of godly life.

To Sanne's blog: I "voted with my feet", as we say in Finland. That means, that I am no longer (haven't been for years) a member of any church, since I am not happy with the policy of our Lutheran church and I haven't found yet another church. Otherwise I think that for me as a woman it would be inappropriate to question teachings of the church in public and in real life.

What I try to do to promote traditionalism, is this: if I read a good article, I share it on facebook, or maybe some of the forums I visit. I have noticed that it is better to just share, maybe with a quote. But not to write my own opinion. If I say my own opinion, people just start quarreling with me and do not read the article itself. So I just share and quote.

And of course we can always try to live in a way that we are a good example of traditional/godly life. But to be honest I am afraid that my life is everything but a good example. :)

  6. Just to clarify, I don't mean that we should support or attend openly liberal churches. However, there are folks around who argue that we should discard Christianity altogether because (some) churches are liberal.

    Agree about Duggars.
