It appears that Mr Trump's victory is in no small way due to the enthusiasm of Amish voters about his candidacy. Here's what some of them said about the election:
The husband said he was a supporter of
Second Amendment rights and did not believe Clinton would serve gun
owners as president. He said Trump had failures as a businessman, shaky
morals and multiple marriages but would be a good leader.
(Quoted from a post by Thinking Housewife which can be read in its entirety over here, emphasis mine).
Their attitude is quite different from that of some sanctimonious "conservative" religious leaders, probably because they still know something about "traditional gender roles", unlike their counterparts.
Interesting. I thought the Amish do not vote at all. I wonder if the wife's vote the way their husbands tell them.
ReplyDeleteI have started to think that maybe women shouldn't vote at all. So many women vote for vaginas... When we got female president, very many women voted her because just because she was a woman. She was the lousiest president ever. Bad-tempered, too.
Oh. My. Word. I just googled some pics of the Amish, just for fun. And what did I find? TLC:s series called "Breaking Amish":

It is obviously about young Amish who want to become worldly. Look at these before-after-pictures:

Now Amish clothes are a bit too old-fashioned to me, but I really HATE what they have done to them. They all look so much better -and happier- in thei Amish style: Plain clothes let person's true beaty to shine. When they are styled in modern way, they look -well, just trashy. Both men and women.
How very sad.
Housewife, I think they normally don't, but they did this time, in droves, which makes it so remarkable. I guess they feel threatened.
ReplyDeleteAs for female suffrage, theoretically speaking one could name all sorts of reasons why they probably shouldn't; practically, we are given the vote so why wasting it while other side doesn't, if you know what I mean. Not all elections are equally important, but sometimes too much is at stake, so to say.
As for all these TV programs, I don't take them so seriously. I think there will still be enough Amish left, considering their birth rates:)
Modern clothes for men are often baggy and shapeless, while what is offered for women is too tight and too short; both sorts made of cheap stretchy type fabrics which don't drape well and look trashy, but that's the fashions of the current year:)
