The Joys Of Modern Society

Two thirds of UK adults feel they have nobody to talk to about their problems, a survey has found.

There is a price tag attached to the destruction of family and community, it appears.
UK government has solutions, though. First, it announced 1 February Time to Talk Day:

"Time to Talk Day is an important reminder of the power of conversation, and how by taking small steps to help others we can all make our own contribution to a better and more mentally resilient society."

People nowadays actually have to be reminded to talk to each other!
Second, it declared a crusade against loneliness:

Prime Minister Theresa May said in January that a series of policy changes - including the creation of a loneliness minister - would be introduced...

Wow, I can't even! This is nanny statism taken to an entirely new level.

Research carried out by the commission found that almost 200,000 older people had not had a conversation with a friend or relative in more than a month.

We all know that it's mostly women who traditionally care for the elderly, just what did they think would happen when all the women went to work?

It also said that more than nine million people in the UK described themselves as "always or often lonely".

It's a small price to pay for living in an enlightened liberal consumerist society which values stuff above personal relationships, I guess.

And if you do talk to people, don't forget to ask them about their mental health. I'm sure they won't think you a freak...

Here is a classic case of Liberalism claiming it can fix a problem it created.

"We all know that it's mostly women who traditionally care for the elderly, just what did they think would happen when all the women went to work?"

Your quite right but of course it goes right through society, children are separated from their parents, men and women compete against each other and the old are left to fend for themselves. It is truly evil, but thats Liberalism for ya!

  2. Mark,
Western governments actively promote evil and call it good.

  3. I read about the UK loneliness minister on another web site I frequent. I didn't think about it from the nanny statism level, but you're right.

My first thought was how sad of a commentary this is on society today. People value finding their own lives and think their lives consist in the abundance of the things they possess.

Hmmm...I read this Book once that has a thing or two to say about that...

  4. Lady Virtue, I once read someone talking about her childhood in UK, in the 1970s-1980s and she said that most women in their street were home, the door was always open for anyone and the neighbours would drop by for a friendly chat. In those times the Brits didn't need a loneliness minister! Granted, may be in big cities it was that bad already.

Also the gov-ts across the West have done everything possible to remove the traditional authority and support from such institutions as family and church and are now trying to substitute them with more red tape, payed by the taxpayer, of course.

  5. A 'loneliness minister'; good grief!

    What's next?

    Minister for Depression?

    Minister for Sadness?

    Minister for Existential Angst? ;)

  6. Will, nothing will surprise me any more:) They'll probably hire some social workers so that you can discuss your "mental health" with them, a sort of secular priests, who then can report to Big Brother whether you are still a loyal citizen. 1984 was prophetic in this regard.
