The Strangest Conspiracy Of Them All

It has existed for quite some years but I only recently took the trouble to actually research it: the flat earth movement. It sounds so bizarre that I'm really at a loss for words but there is something romantic in the idea of the vast Antarctic ice wall and the great unknown beyond that they are promoting.

As with many other conspiracy theories, I sort of understand why so many Westerners distrust their governments, but the sheer scope of the supposed cover-up means that someone somewhere would open his mouth and speak the truth at that point, wouldn't they?

The strangest thing of all is that tech companies recently took a lot of trouble to censor the flat earthers, I just wonder why. I mean I know they sound crazy but aren't you allowed to believe whatever in the current year? Apparently not that the Earth is flat:)

What do you think? Would you/could you believe such a thing???

  1. Who could believe such a thing? Perhaps the same kind of person who could believe that there are more than two sexes; or that socialism is the way to peace and prosperity; or that humans are a plague on the planet; or any of a whole bunch of ludicrous ideas. Or perhaps it's persons who haven't traveled very far from home, or watched a ship appear or disappear at the horizon, or flown from the US to Asia which is halfway around the globe. Sorry, to those misguided souls, but everything I've seen makes me certain that the earth is round, and I can trust those pilots who've actually flown completely around the globe, and astronauts who've seen the earth from space!

  2. Yes, it is weird, but also kinda funny. Apparently there are more folks who believe it than we think and they are even having debates about it online:) YouTube deleted a whole bunch of their vids but you can find them on BitChute. It's all based on some 19th century book or something. I have been pondering this topic and it appears to me that it's just another angle of the rebellion against modernity which is happening right now. Now there is one of their arguments which I find interesting: why is the exploration of Antarctica so heavily regulated? Is there something which we don't know? Doesn't prove their theories correct, of course, just food for thought.

  3. Well, people even believe in scientology, even though they know it was invented at 60's by Ron L. Hubbard.

Antarctica is so heavily regulated because a) it belongs to no one, which makes things difficult and b) like arctic nature, antarctic nature is very, very delicate and people can do serious harm there if they do not know what they are doing. Also if science is not done properly, places can be contaminated with bacteria or such and make all further studies worthless.

I actually know one man who is an ice age -denialist. I didn't even know such people exist. He is very intelligent, in very high position in work life and does not believe in ice age. Here in Finland there is plenty of evidence of that, including the post-glacial rebound that is very visible here.

  4. Yes, that's exactly what a flat earther would find a fishy explanation, wouldn't he?:)

Interesting, I thought ice age was pretty well established.

  5. An airplane flight around the world, or a ship trip around the world is a great way to observe that the earth is spherical in the way a ball is spherical, not as a plate or a saucer. If they want to believe it, that is fine, but do we want schools to teach it to children?

  7. If you are a Christian, it would be wise to look at it through a Biblical perspective.

  9. Gigi, thanks for the links! The OT was written using a lot of poetic expressions which technically could be interpreted to mean several things, that's why I think that the Scriptures debates on the topic don't exactly cut it. The main proof we have are photos from space which these guys deny are real hence I guess there is no way to convince them. I wonder if any of my readers believe in it? If so. come out of your closet, here is a safe space to discuss it:)

  10. Also what Lydia said. I believe they claim that nobody yet crossed the world from pole to pole hence South Pole doesn't exist or something similar. Of course, I read they have been flying over Antarctica so not an argument.

Did you see that new emoji? I am so disgusted I had to write about it.

  12. I've seen it on Twitter. The first thing which comes to mind is the quote from Fascinating Womanhood: higher civilisational types tend to be modest or something similar. You either have class or you don't I guess:)

  13. I just re-read FW and she did say something like that. It is true: Think about how japanese and chinese dress and behave traditionally.

  14. There was a saying in my youth: you look more intelligent with your mouth shut:)

Goes for the target audience of this emoji I guess. I keep wondering if everybody should be taught how to use computer?

  15. A local politician in my region was outed as holding such views, but she got more flack for certain other comments of hers deemed 'anti-Islamic' by progs, naturally.

  16. Interesting, so there are real life people who hold these beliefs? I find it strangely fascinating:)
