Sugar Creek Amish Mysteries

Much as I dislike modern American movies and TV series, I enjoyed this one.

It's family friendly, has absolutely no funny stuff and and still is interesting even though the ''crimes" the heroine investigates are more along the lines of petty thefts than blood-curdling murders. There is little feminism or political correctness, and the main character is quite nosy in the typical female fashion, but not an obnoxious feminist. She is also often shown wearing beautiful dresses. On Sundays everyone goes to church and the Amish are portrayed positively. The scenery is also beautiful. I'd recommend this show to everyone looking for light, feel-good entertainment with Christian themes.

Marriage And Social Class

I found a very interesting post about marriage settlements and why upper class families weren't really thrilled at the prospect of their daughters marrying below their status:

If we take a moment to consider what a settlement might look like between an aristocrat's daughter and a commoner, this might elucidate for us (one of the many reasons) why her parents would be less than enthused about approving such a marriage. The dowry would likely include properties that had been in the family for generations, land and estates that were a source of pride for the family. The bridegroom, in return, would offer the bride... what?

Left Vs Right On "Women's Rights"

Should be called "Women's Wrongs" really:)

Too many people still have this illusion that while "the Left" is bad and liberal, "the Right" is "based" and traditional. The truth is that the difference between the modern Left and the modern Right is more akin to the difference between Trotsky and Stalin.

Trotsky supported women working outside home, women in the government, women in all traditionally male occupations, women in the army, easy divorce, "free s8x" plus alphabet stuff and a8ortion on demand.

Stalin supported women working outside home, women in the government, women in all traditionally male occupations, women in the army, easy divorce, but somewhat disapproved of "free s8x'' and forbade the last two, and encouraged the wives of high state officials to stay home. So one could say he was somewhat better, but by no means traditional.

The same is partly true about the modern Right, except that the majority of right-wingers, especially in Europe wouldn't even dream about forbidding the last two points. So the difference is essentially that they somewhat disapprove of "free s8x" and don't mind that some women stay home. Christians with traditional views simply have no representation in the modern western politics. That's just a fact.

Let's Talk Theology

Actually, I wanted to talk about Trump's Golden Calf giant gold statue, but decided not to. It's old news by now anyway (life comes at you fast;), so let's talk theology instead.

What do you all think about Wesleyan Arminianism?

The Dangers Of Calvinism?

It's been the King's birthday and a long weekend and I have been away from the computer so had no time to post. Instead, I'd like to highlight a post on one of my feeds, this one

On the surface, it deals with the current war, but it really goes much deeper than that and delves deeply into theology. Your thoughts are welcome, as usual:)

The Caribbean Crisis of the 21st Century?

was-donald-trump-blocked-from-using-the-nuclear-codes-against-iran-1

I must be the only one who is not bothered by the potential nuclear war because I kinda doubt whether the nukes really exist. I mean it's like the Caribbean crisis all over again. The story was that some brave Soviet officer refused to follow the order to launch nukes at the USA. Now it's an American general who did the same?

There is one country though which supposedly has them and wouldn't hesitate to use them, but they don't. I guess you can't launch what doesn't exist, can you? I know it's an unproven conspiracy theory but it sort of gives one the peace of mind;)

The Most Traditional Country In Europe?

Well, according to DuckDuckGo Ai, it must be Italy since it has the least women working in Europe, about 47%. Greece is in the 2nd place with 50% of all women working, and the third place, surprisingly enough goes to Romania (I thought they were communist and stuff like that;)

None of these countries is Protestant, btw. It's strange because in the USA it's mainly Evangelicals who support traditional family. And if one counts Turkey as a halfway European country, only a third of their women work (35%). Just so you know:)

Good Friday

Good Friday is the Friday before Easter and commemorates the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. Christians call it “good” not because it was painless or pleasant, but because Jesus’ suffering and death accomplished God’s plan of salvation and made forgiveness possible for all who trust in Him.
