Christians And Soul Ties

Do soul ties exist? This article says it's an un-Biblical concept:

The phrase “soul ties” is not in the Bible; rather, the idea of soul ties is a man-made speculation which some teachers superimpose onto Scripture in an attempt to explain certain human behaviors. Soul ties are said to be connections from one person’s soul to (or into) another person’s soul, a concept that has no basis in Scripture.

Other sources warn about dangers of soul-ties formed through immoral practices. I'm not sure what to think about it.

What is your opinion?

  1. I agree that the concept as it is articulated isn't found in Scripture, but I think the idea is far more valid than this article is allowing. Anyone who has ever been plagued by any besetting sin understands that it impacts our soul, even after conversion, and even as we walk the hard road of sanctification.

I understand why this article reads as it does. I really do. It's a dangerous thing to create concept as doctrine where Scripture is silent. However, just as we look at "Let Us make man in Our image" or "Baptize then in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Ghost" and from that interpret the Trinity (also not found in Scripture), it's not at all far fetched to warn that certain sins will vex our souls (see Lot referenced in 2 Peter 2:8) in ways that are long lasting.

  2. Well, as far as I understand, (negative) soul tie isn't just a sin which vexes you, but more of a connection between you and another person, which can be created through fornication and can open your soul to evil influences. Some go so far as to say that if your partner is cursed this curse will go over to you etc. I mean we as Christians are supposed to now that s8xual immorality is bad, but this takes it to the whole other level.

  3. Funny, I thought it meant something like "twin flames" or other new age nonsense.

I personally believe sin effects our flesh and mind, but our souls stay stainless. Even original sin is tied to our flesh. No flesh, no sin.

Our flesh and mind can be tangled with other people or evil entities, but our souls remain intact. When we hurt our soul, we actually hurt our connection to it, not the soul itself.

  4. They probably call it soul ties to designate is as a spiritual connection, and not only a physical one. Whether such things exist or not is up to a debate. But curses do exist, imo. Whether one can get a curse through s8x with someone cursed like an std is quite far-fetched, though.
