Should Men Still Seek Marriage

Or rather should they be afraid of divorce? VD thinks they shouldn't:

Other than its generally unpleasant nature, the waste of time and money it entails, and the inevitably deleterious effect on the children, divorce really isn’t anything for the average man to fear. So, if you’re a young man who is afraid of marriage due to the perceived dangers of divorce, be aware that you risk missing out on one of the greatest and most important experiences of your life because you’re jumping at shadows.

  1. Obviously it depends on country one lives in. In my country, over 50 % of married couples do not divorce. They truly are together until death does them apart. Unmarried couples are more likely to split, even after several children, and people married on church are less likely to divorce than those married by judge.

And if one is actualy church-going christian, there must be severe violence or cheating involved for them to divorce. (Here people very often want church wedding and baptise their babies, even though they never go to church otherwise and do not really believe in God.)

But I would advise young men, who are afraid to get married because woman MIGHT divorce them, run quickly back to mama. Being afraid of that just tells that man does not believe in himself and in his ability to choose and keep a good woman; grown-up men are really quite assured they can choose well.

And christian men, of course, trust in God's guindance in these important matters of life. So there is no need to worry.

  2. Youngish men are so afraid of things nowadays (at least on internet forums) that it really makes me question their testosterone levels. It is, after all, the hormone that makes men more self-assured and braver than women.

  3. I think in my country about 1/3 of all marriages end in divorce. Usual reasons are cheating and substance abuse. However, many people don't marry at all, especially lower classes. Marriage is either for Christians/Muslims or middle class and higher. The latter will cohabitate, too, but usually marry soon enough. Lower class will marry after the birth of their 2nd child or not at all, and such couples are much less stable and fall apart quite easily. Marriage is essentially religious or status thing nowadays.

  4. Also I'm not sure about Catholics but many Protestant churches will kick you out if you live together and refuse to get married. Idem ditto if you divorce without a just cause.
