Isn't autumn beautiful?

  1. Isn't autumn beautiful?

I'll have to take your word for it...:)

  2. Autumn truly is my favorite time of year, especially the early part. I live in a state in the U.S. with hot summers.

  3. Our summers are hot, too, but only for a week or so:) Living in a warm climate has its positive sides, I'm sure, but I guess I would miss the change of seasons...

  5. I love autumn, light is so soft then. We are heading winter, though, it was -7,9 degress when I woke up this morning. I love it, and our dog even more so. I wish permanent snow comes early this year. Yesterday we had the tiniest amount of snow but it all melted away.

Admiring pictures of the changing seasons in other parts of the country (or in this case the world) makes me long for fall a little.

It's still pretty hot right now (high today is projected to be 90 degrees). We're all slightly heat fatigued as usually by November the high has dropped to about 80.

But living in a warm climate does have it up side. When the heat finally breaks, the winters are blissful and we spend lots of time outside, including doing school lessons outside and taking impromptu beach trips.

So I will admire your photos, which are lovely, and patiently wait for our season to change, such as seasons change down here. :)

  7. Thanks, Elspeth! It's been around freezing point here this morning, too, but Saturday the temps are jumping back to +14*C. Oh well, in January we mostly do get snow and frost, and sometimes even in March:) I guess our weather is rather unpredictable...

  8. Housewife, speaking about the light, don't you folks up North miss the sun? I normally get winter blues around this time of the year, but have found that authentic cod liver oil helps. Will start taking it again in a couple of days.

  9. Winter blues is rather common here. I personally don't really suffer from the lack of sunlight, propably because I walk my dog in the morning, so my circadian rhythm gets the sunlight it needs in the morning. I do sleep more on wintertime, though. I have read it is normal to sleep 2 hours more on winter, my situation is not quite that bad. :)

I have also read people who live north enough to have proper snow, do not have so much winter blues. We live on the southwest coast, so we have long dark autumn and rather short time of permanent snow. In northern Finland there is permanent snow for much longer time and also trees are snow-cowered. So it is never really dark, only dusky.

  10. True, snow reflects light so it's not very dark in the evenings. I heard somewhere that in the middle of winter you need to spend like 2 hours outside in the sun to get enough vit.D which most people don't do. Now for a couple of days we've had a cold spell (it froze this morning) with lots of sun but it's going to be warm, rainy and gloomy yet again...

  11. Here in Finland you can spent all day outside and get absolutely no vitamin D on winter. I think september is the last month we can count on sun for it. After that, the sun is so low (and it is also often very cloudy)that skin just does not react.

  12. It figures, you are so much further North!
