Beware Of Your Frying Pan!

I realise it's DailyFailMail, but still...Are you sure your frying pan is not turning your son into your daughter???

Men could end up with penises half-an-inch shorter than usual if their parents were exposed to high levels of a chemical used in non-stick frying pans.

Scientists have found the chemicals, called PFCs, can interfere with male hormones and lead to sexual organs being 'significantly' shorter and thinner.

And this effect is not only seen in the womb, the researchers said. PFCs could have toxic effects in teenagers, too.

The chemicals, also found in waterproof clothing and greaseproof packaging for food, get into the bloodstream and reduce testosterone levels.

Read the rest over here

So I went and bought this:

I'm told it has a fancy name of cazuela though the store advertised it simply as a "clay pot." Still have to come to terms with using it:)

  1. I believe it! Plastic drinking cups, too .... bad for boys ... I have been using cast iron frying pans and stainless steel cups. No plastics for the children, especially the boys.

  2. Yes, it's in all kinds of plastics, and it's also bad for girls as it can make them infertile. Plastics in general are bad for the environment, too, but you hardly hear it.

  3. We have used only old-fashioned cast iron pans for years. We cook so much that those non-stick pans die in a year. Also they are usually too thin.

  4. Yes, they sure are! I have a cast iron pan, a small one. Things like potatoes tend to burn in it rather badly, but it does well with meat. Unfortunately, they are quite expensive while the cazuela wasn't:)

  5. You use too much heat and not enough butter if your potatoes burn. :)

How come cast iron pans are expensive there? Here they cost next to nothing and last a lifetime. Several lifetimes, actually. I have one that used to belong to my grandmother. They just get better when they age. Well, we do have one Petromax pan that was 60 euros, but it is huge, 40 cm wide and weights 8 kg. My husband likes to use it on open fire.

  6. Could be:) I usually use butter/oil rather sparingly.

As to why they are so expensive - I don't know. Because like everything is expensive around here? I think they cost about 50 euro on average. I paid 10 (!) for my clay pot. Today it went into the oven and did fine. I'm content!
