According to the Roman law, any child born inside marriage has a legal father, unless the said father expressly denies him which Joseph didn't. I think this teaches us of the importance of formalities and "keeping up appearances" in certain situations.

I also don't think there is any contradiction between the wife's domestic duties and spiritual life. Just like the husband is expected to do a decent job providing so the wife should try and do a decent job of running the house and taking care of children.

I do object to the modern idea that Proverbs 31 lady was a feminist who had a career in real estate and spent most of her time engaging in various business pursuits and that making money for the sake of money is spiritual in itself. First, of course, virgin Mary who's greatest achievement was to submit to God's will and bear a child technically out of wedlock ;). And my favourite Mary, sister of Martha and Lazarus.

I am trying to say that maybe we should focus more on the spiritual stuff and less on our domestic duties. No domestic duties are of course important, but are they really supposed to be our main interest in life? If there was a christian man who would think that his job is the most important thing in his life, wouldn't we protest? So how come christian woman's main focus in life should be her domestic duties, NOT her spiritual life?

Now I do understand that if one keeps homemaking blog, one writes about homemaking. :) But in several christian blogs it seems to me that the only bible verses, only spiritual thing is this Proverbs 31 Woman -thing. It's hardly the most important bible verse for christians.

It seems to me that sadly many ladies use this verse to justify them being so busy that they have hardly any time for spiritual life. Spiritual practise can be scary if one is not wuite so happy with ones life...

Housewife from Finlandnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3139017677124620997.post-36059921795422583282016-12-16T00:17:04.189-08:002016-12-16T00:17:04.189-08:00I think it's a good way to see it as an ideal ...I think it's a good way to see it as an ideal image, not literal, day-to-day instructions as some are trying to present it. Especially those who use it as a proof that a woman can't be virtuous unless she succeeds in the market place. I see the virtuous woman described here as the personification of wisdom, which is a great complement to our sex. She works hard, plans, develops her skills, takes advantage of her opportunitie, doesn't sleep in. These are qualities that everyone needs.
